Fix the House

 Fix the House

Aged tile, it’s time for new,

Start by ripping up the floor,

That is all you wish to do,

Things go wrong, you crack the door.

Door it matches cabinet,

Out of style to replace,

How we squirm and dab in it,

Stay or move to a new place.

Staying seems the saner plan,

‘Til the walls start screaming loud,

“We’re all blue, please, paint us tan”,

“Or, cover us with dingy shroud”!

Other walls with paper on,

Say, “We’ll clash, the eye won’t catch”-

“With bold new color you must don”,

“Us now, or sooner strike a match”.

Eight months in with projects fresh,

With every move one more will sprout,

This house demands its pound of flesh,

I see it now, there’s no way out!

Call “the man” or plumber in,

Fix the leak and patch the wall,

Some future day we’ll sit and grin,

And, finally say, “We love it all”!

God's Desire

God’s Desire

The clouds release in reverie,

Though dark the dawn in morning skies,

It somehow washes over me,

The birds all sing at spring’s surprise.

In steady streams the rains all fall,

Bring more, bring more, it’s time for this,

The greening grass and flowers call-

As gardens thrive in springtime bliss.

We all await the morning sun,

As snug we cuddle by the fire,

The earth’s new life has just begun,

We thank our God, it’s his desire.

Love

Love

Where does love come from,

Well,

I know where it’s found,

It’s found in you,

The love of my life,

It’s beginning,

And, it’s ending,

Of course,

Is from God,

But, God gave you to me,

I don’t know why,

Because,

Sometimes,

I’m not as loving as I should be,

Yet,

I know,

That I love you,

And,

I know,

You love me, too,

Love,

It grows,

It deepens,

It has depth and dimension,

Beyond comprehension,

And,

It’s very simple, too,

I see it,

When you give me a wink,

I feel it,

When you interlace your fingers in mine,

And, I hear it,

When you say,

I love you,

And, I say,

I love you, too,

That’s when all of our senses combine,

Coalesce,

Collide,

And, the infinite, everlasting nature of it,

Becomes sealed in an embrace,

Where does love come from,

Well,

I know where it’s found,

It’s found in you!

Spring Has Sprung

Spring Has Sprung

Ah, spring, oh; see the bloom doeth rise,

The sun emerges, glorious skies,

Our great Designer, one who hath-

Bequeathed this beauteous garden path.

The jonquil and the tulip nod,

As others break through warming sod,

And, greeted each in waking hours,

This pageantry and dance of flowers.

Our wintry storms have gone away,

Oh, thank you God for this new day!

It’s time to smile and have some fun,

Come out! Come out! Enjoy the sun!

Katie Bell

Katie Bell

Too young to go, dear friend of mine,

And, only eight, beloved feline,

Your partner died at age sixteen,

Few months ago, the hurt still keen.

Aloof when Albie roamed around,

So cute, yet you were more profound-

In how kept your heart within,

‘Twas hard to see such toughness win.

When Albie died, then you were born,

Remoteness gone, no more forlorn,

You’d daily twine and nightly sat,

Upon my lap to pet or pat.

Now, to the vet for yearly care,

Once home you hid and were not there,

And, did not drink and would not eat,

You stiffly walked as in defeat.

As short and quick your swift decline,

You searched for soft things to recline,

These telltale signs we’d come to know,

So hard, so soon, to let you go.

Dear One, I know that you’re at rest,

And, in this life we were so blessed,

We came to know you, oh, so well,

We loved, and love you, Katie Bell!
