God

God

God in not Santa Claus,
God is God,
God is not indifferent,
God is God,
God is not evil,
God is God,
God is Good,
God is Loving,
God is Kind,
God wants every one of his children to prosper,
Not every child will prosper,
Not every child will escape pain,
Some children suffer more,
But, God is there,
Always,
God is always present,
Through pain and happiness,
God can and does discourse,
God will always listen,
To everything you have to say,
If you are angry, sad, lonely or,
Even happy,
God will sustain you,
In life and death,
But, you must believe,
You must have faith,
In order to have a relationship,
In order to be a true son or daughter,
God wants to have relationship,
With you,
Yes,
With You,
Praise God, today,
He is your creator, sustainer, and advocate,
He will never, ever let you go,
And, He is with you always!
Today and for all time,
Praise God!

Catching Fireflies

Catching Fire Flies

Pointed toes and nimble knees,
Dancing ‘neath the folds of her dress,
Above the dew-laden grass,
The lass with outstretch arms,
The tiny fingers,
Grasp to hold,
Tenderly hold,
Now open to reveal,
Light and life within,
A golden, glowing, glimmering gem,
Eyes widen,
As dimpled cheeks border her broadening smile,
A catch,
A find,
A joy to behold,
A thousand, twinkling beads of light,
Ahead, above,
Below and beyond,
And, fleet of foot,
She is off once more,
Assured of the majesty of magic,
Seen and real,
She twirls, laughing,
Caught in midst of twilight,
She catches,
Dances,
And,
Is enveloped in a world of wonder!

Summer Days

Before the air conditioner,
At night your Mom said, “Do not stir”,
The air so humid sheets would wick,
And, to your little limbs would stick.

Now, as a child you’d simply pray,
A summer breeze might come your way,
To gently move the air within,
And, cool the moisture on your skin.

Rememb’ring back when on the porch,
The fireflies; their tail-lit torch,
And, Moms would find the coolest spot,
To lay their children; tired and hot.

These sweltering days upon us run
The longer hours; relentless sun,
The crop matures in emerald field,
We thank the Lord for bounteous yield.

Now, hailing back those summer days,
When we full met the sunshine’s rays,
We knew that we were in God’s hands,
He made the breeze, the rains, the lands.

May we this Sunday; day of rest,
Remember well the One who blessed,
As we move toward the harvest store,
May we praise God for evermore!

Grace for the Day

Grace for the Day

O glorious day,
O happy day,
To be alive,
To stretch to heaven,
Within and without knowing all,
As heaven fills each fiber of my being,
I sense the belongingness of all things holy,
I feel the breeze,
I feel the sun,
I feel the wonder of the world,
I have today,
Only today,
Tomorrow is not promised,
Not yet,
Yesterday is gone,
Not forgotten,
Remembered,
I am all of what I was,
But, I am becoming, too,
Better than I was,
In God’s grace alone,
Each second,
Each minute,
Each hour,
And, in that grace,
Your loving grace,
The grace that only you can give,
This will be,
A glorious day,
A happy, happy day!

One Church

One Church

There is One Church of which I boast,
With Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
I ne’er can call it yours or mine,
It centers on one God divine.

All dogma, doctrine, every creed,
Must point to only You for need-
Or want or heart’s or soul’s desire,
In life Your will may I aspire.

May I resist the evil one,
Through Jesus Christ the Father’s Son,
Forgiveness in the errors I make,
Through grace the bread and cup I take.

Your life upon the cross you spent,
And, to the sealed tomb they sent,
Arisen now beyond the grave,
True hope for every soul to save.

May all the saints from then ‘til now,
In humbleness may all heads bow,
Until in heav’n we see Your face,
One God, One Church in all your grace!

Movie Night

Movie Night

Choosing movies for a date is not so simply done,
For at the end you’d like to say the both of you’ve had fun,
When one of you quite likes the show the other is quite sick,
The person who detested it will say, “Next time I pick”.

There’s drama, thrillers, mysteries or horror to be found,
Where violence and sexy stuff and politics abound,
We realize the movie will at some point make us tense,
But, finally when credits roll it all should make some sense.

Yet, of them all the romance film is still the best to see,
When both the man and woman have some vulnerability,
And, many times you’re holding hands and kissing at the end.
You both have fallen fast in love once more with your best friend!

Dance Recital

Dance Recital

Delightful dainty dinky-doos come racing tippy-toed,
Across the stage as leader tries to prod, cajole and goad,
There always one, the ornery tot, who has a better way,
As other dancers hold each hand this one will run away.

The audience will giggle/laugh and comment ‘bout the one,
All glittered in her leotard she’s only having fun,
The dance is flowing symmetry; with legs and hands and arms,
With ten to twenty dinky-doos the ornery has its charms.

Now, through it all the dance pursues as pleasant music plays,
It’s evident they’ve learned the skills from pliés to chassés,
The arms will sway and circles move and pointed toes will rise,
All Moms and Dads and family are thrilled in rapt surprise,

The dance will finish with a swell; the dancers gather now,
All in a line they’ve finished well to take a final bow,
Yet finally the ornery tot, in exit she will pause,
To smile before the audience accepting her applause!
