Tornadoes Gather Hurricanes

Tornadoes Gather Hurricanes

Tornadoes gather hurricanes,

A nation in its birthing pains,

And, all are heirs of this birthright,

Who dare to yell and scream and fight.

With petulance enough to tear,

Is threat of war enough to bear,

What civil thread can tie us now,

Is there some truth that would bow.

Try patience and humility,

Compassion laced with charity,

But, not with those with whom we pride,

Reach only toward the other side.

Dear God, it’s time to swallow tongues,

Keep words of blame trapped in our lungs,

To love our enemies as friends,

And, open ears toward better ends.

For only love can save us sure,

With prayers to God to make us pure-

In our intents to heal our land,

We must extend a loving hand.

Twenty-Twenty-One

Twenty-Twenty-One

Two thousand years and twenty-one,

We hope ‘twill be a bit more fun,

I promise not to be too proud,

Nor ring this New Year in too loud.

I feel for those who have to say,

My lungs have always been this way,

For we have learned one little cough,

Can really turn some people off.

Now, I’m hard-wired to see bright sides,

Rare down too long what e’re abides,

My cooking’s bad, but I don’t whine,

Our dog quit begging when we dine.

I like my home, yet I do prize,

The grocery store, my exercise,

My social life is never flat,

I know each clerk, we stop and chat.

We’ve learned to live a slower pace,

It does not have to be a race,

I have a wife, whom I adore,

I treasure that I see her more.

Now, as the New Year ushers in,

I pray for God to be within,

To help a neighbor when in need,

And, thank our God for all, indeed!

Christmas Blessings on Winter Solstice

Christmas Blessings on Winter Solstice

May the shortest day and the longest night,

Remind us again who is truly the light,

For in a few days to a manger we go,

To find a bless’d savior with His light all aglow.

From God he was sent, Yes, to save all mankind,

To restore light within where some darkness did bind,

All thanks to the Lord, for this baby so small,

For the Light of the world, now, comes in to us all!

Christmas Once Again!

Christmas Once Again!

O, happy little Christmas tree from round our memories dance,

From days of yore all souls adore now come to take a glance,

Fair beaming all with widened smiles we see the tinsel fall,

Hail back again two-thousand years when love came to us all.

For, centered in the Christmas tree a manger scene within,

Where Joseph, Mary cradle Christ where new life can begin,

And, angels sing the Alleluia chorus to the Son,

All faith and hope and love restored to each and every one!

No pestilence or war may win when God is on our side,

The joy of Christmas reigns supreme for Heav’n now opens wide,

For love came down at Christmas, in gratitude we raise,

All thanks to God who loves the world, we sing once more in praise.

This night we see the Christmas tree with every light aglow,

Remembering each gift, all wrapped, that’s nestled far below,

And, scanning now we see the Star shine brightly from above,

That leads us to the manger still and Christ, the One we love!
