Katie Bell

Katie Bell

Too young to go, dear friend of mine,

And, only eight, beloved feline,

Your partner died at age sixteen,

Few months ago, the hurt still keen.

Aloof when Albie roamed around,

So cute, yet you were more profound-

In how kept your heart within,

‘Twas hard to see such toughness win.

When Albie died, then you were born,

Remoteness gone, no more forlorn,

You’d daily twine and nightly sat,

Upon my lap to pet or pat.

Now, to the vet for yearly care,

Once home you hid and were not there,

And, did not drink and would not eat,

You stiffly walked as in defeat.

As short and quick your swift decline,

You searched for soft things to recline,

These telltale signs we’d come to know,

So hard, so soon, to let you go.

Dear One, I know that you’re at rest,

And, in this life we were so blessed,

We came to know you, oh, so well,

We loved, and love you, Katie Bell!

Searching Widely

Searching Widely

Searching widely, far and near,

When most uncertain; facing fear,

And, all around is swirling doubt,

While your own strength is giving out.

Then faith in God with whom you trust,

Stand strong upon His strength, you must,

Within his arms a loving warm,

He’ll guide you through the rampant storm.

Creator of all life we see,

Sustainer of all life is He,

When all you see are shifting sands,

He’ll lift you with Almighty Hands.

Yes, walk by faith and not by sight,

To see the Savior’s glorious light,

Through raging sea and crashing foam,

Tis God alone twill bring you home!

Drifting

Drifting

I want to drift upon the snow awhile,

Fancied away,

Where thoughts mingle,

With nothing more than shadow and light,

Where a thousand million stars have fallen,

Glittering in the sunlight,

Reflecting joy,

Deflecting doubt,

Collecting all of the beauty,

Which nature has in store,

Which nature can restore,

Within the eye, the soul and mind,

It helps to remind,

Me,

Of being a child,

Again,

Never lost,

Never forgotten,

Never alone,

Only tucked away,

Sitting in a bedroom,

Gazing,

Smiling,

And, dreaming,

About my windowed world,

Which,

Once again,

Has been captured,

In a drift!

In the Stillness of the Night

In the Stillness of the Night

In the stillness of the night,

The vast,

Seemingly endless night,

Eyes wide open,

Discerning,

The discernible,

And, the indiscernible,

When I view the whole,

When I have read,

When I have listened,

Not to myself,

No, no, no,

To others,

All others,

The discernible,

And, the indiscernible,

The world makes sense,

The world comes together,

The world is at peace,

In,

Through,

And, by,

The Kingdom of God,

And, how do I know this,

There is a fault line,

There is limitation,

There is a yearning to create,

That which was not made by man,

Nor, which man can make,

Man cannot reach far enough beyond himself,

Man cannot reach far enough inside himself,

To find his true self,

It is only through grace,

And, there is truly only One,

One,

One who can give us that grace,

One who can save us,

Jesus Christ,

A Lord for all,

Those who will receive him,

And, those who have received,

Perceive,

Glimpses,

Of beauty, which available,

Of peace, which surpasses understanding,

Of love,

True love,

Unforced,

And, undemanding,

Pure love,

Which can only come,

From, God!
