The Shower

The Shower

Sometimes my wife will say,
No shower for her today,
She’ll state with no regret,
“I’d rather not get wet”.

Now, that’s my favorite part,
I simply love the start,
That column of warm rain,
From head to feet on drain.

When I was just a boy,
Four brothers would annoy,
My mother made a fuss,
One minute shower for us!

That’s right; just sixty secs,
And, how it did perplex,
It made our Mom quite proud,
She had us count out loud.

Oh, waste was one concern,
(Warm water for her turn),
But, bless her heart she’s through,
One minute shower, too.

All grown and rather free,
A daily shower spree,
And, now that I’m the man,
Two minutes ‘cause I can!

Summer Flowers

Summer Flowers

A flower fed within its folds,
It blazes in the summer sun,
And, through the heat its head it holds,
Its season fully on the run.

Each parting petal lays upon,
As casting shadow far beneath,
With myriad partners colors don,
Their beauty for the eye bequeath.

Unto the world its rapture brings,
As God, with goodness, smiles above,
With every hope all nature sings,
A full and flower’ng wondrous love.

Week with the Grandsons

Week with the Grandsons

Bundled in their blankets in the basement half asleep,
Watching cartoons quietly they hardly make a peep,
Grandpa, Grandma upstairs making breakfast just like bees;
Soon the house will bustle with the day’s activities.

Grandpa goes to work as Grandma fixes all the beds,
Boys are getting dressed right now then Grandma combs their heads,
Off to pool or park to play to blow off all the steam,
Grandma keeps her schedule tight as coach for any team.

Each night the family’s reunited for the evening fun,
This week they all have VBS so off to church they run,
To learn how God takes care of us; how Jesus loves us all,
And, home again; get P.J.’s on as in to bed they fall.

The week has flown so quickly boys are back in parents care,
They chatter ‘bout all they have done as they went here and there,
And, Grandpa, Grandma sit upon the quiet porch and miss,
The constant joy they had this week, and smile and reminisce.

Crack Me Up

Crack Me Up

I woke up at the crack of dawn,
I cracked my eyes,
It cracked me up,
 (I giggled),
Last night,
I was watching baseball,
Before I closed my eyes,
They were cracking their bats,
As I was eating Cracker Jack,
Makes me hungry,
I think I will crack a few eggs,
Keeps me sharp,
I don’t want to fall between the cracks,
Especially if someone is cracking the whip,
Now, I’m getting silly,
It cracks me up!
Ha-Ha-Ha!

Captured

Captured

Caught in the rain,
First time in a long, long time,
Standing beneath an umbrella tree,
Rain, rain, rain,
Constant,
Not pouring,
Steady and sure,
Enough to form streams in the path,
Gathering in low spots,
Little pools dancing with every drop,
Woods dampening into their deepest, darker hues,
A sense of solace,
More than solitude,
Part of,
Invited,
Welcome,
No need to hurry in escape,
A fondness in feeling,
A freedom found,
I want it to last,
I want to stay,
Captured in this moment,
If only for a while longer,
Blessed,
Within the blessing of this day,
Let it rain,
Let it rain!
