By Your Side
(Inspired by a movie, “Letters to God”)
For happiness in life,
Sometimes bereft by strife,
You lose your biggest fan,
Most time one of your clan.
Acknowledge there is death,
Inhale and take a breath,
Their life meant liberty,
And, now you are set free.
What was it in your friend,
They held unto the end,
Perhaps that inner grace,
An always happy face.
Oh, now to you they’ve turned,
And say, “What have you learned?”
Young bird you’ve left the nest,
It’s time I take my rest.
I’ll watch you; so in love,
In heaven up above,
So get on; make your move,
And, I will e’re approve.
Make someone laugh or smile,
Be gracious with your style,
Instill the good within,
And, that will make me grin.
Each day I’m with you still,
Keep talking if you will,
I promise I’ll abide,
And, be right by your side.
