Desiring

Desiring

Do I desire what’s here and now,
Or yearn to know what’s through the door,
Of what I see do I mere bow,
Ne’er taste the realm of evermore.

Philosophers through time assert,
Not one can ever demonstrate,
The satisfying sweet dessert,
Of rapture in our human state.

Oh, virtue ranks within our reach,
To higher goals we upward climb,
Great schools of thought some scholars teach,
To reach some realm through thought sublime.

Yet, all have chinks within the chain,
(And, some quite strange, we go too far),
But we should know, and not abstain,
To learn the facts and what they are.

How great the mind, but greater still,
One God who holds and e’er maintains,
One Christ, his Son, who has one will,
Forgiveness for our earthly stains.

Do I desire what’s here and now,
I yearn to go through Heaven’s door,
All praise to God, I humble bow,
All faith in Him for evermore!
