Joy

Joy

Joy in Christ is more than secular-
The need and want to fill the immediate,
Intelligent people,
(Not intellectuals, blah, blah, blah),
Truly intelligent people,
Will look beyond the finite scopes,
The ones that introspect,
Themselves,
All knowledge comes from –
Not me,
And, I don’t think it comes from you-
Anyone of you,
Yet, here we are,
Happiness is wonderful,
Knowledge like happiness is fleeting,
One bad day depletes happiness,
One embolus depletes knowledge,
Happiness is fleeting when family leave now,
Happiness escapes you when you are old,
Happiness is a fickle thing sometimes,
But, JOY has depth,
Joy is the ever present feeling of a ground of being that has no end, and no beginning,
Joy will hang around when everything else fails,
Joy is the determinant,
Joy is the welling up of all things good,
Joy is that which will pull you up,
Joy is humility,
Joy is community,
Joy is family,
Joy is love incarnate,
Joy comes from Christ,
Christ is of God,
God IS the only everlasting JOY!

Happy Anniversary (or Forty Years)

Happy Anniversary (or Forty Years)

Forty years how can it be?
Why you were just a bride-to-be,
White satin shoes on satin’d aisle,
With loving eyes and dazzling smile.

Oh beauteous bride whom I adore,
How can it be I’d love you more?
Two simple kids; one girl one boy,
God bound two hearts with one pure joy!

Adventure bound the two of us,
We’ll take a plane, or train or bus,
If penniless we’ll take a walk,
And, just like us we’ll talk and talk.

Come take my hand, and hold me tight,
This night we’ll dance by pale moonlight,
Our forty-first we’ve now begun,
Oh, come on girl; let’s have some fun!

Distant Train

Distant Train

A heightened sense of reverie,
The day before vacation,
Christmas Eve Eve,
This world not next,
Can’t you hear it?
A moment of expectation,
The imagined and the unimagined,
Dreams built,
Hopes soars,
A new day,
Filled with every adventure known,
And, unknown…
I hear the distant train,
It’s coming,
It haunts my soul with anticipation,
My baggage in hand,
I step up,
The conductor calls, “All Aboard!”
I feel the rush,
Of all things possible!

My Cat Crawls in a Spot of Sun

My Cat Crawls in a Spot of Sun

My cat crawls in a spot of sun,
A day so happy now begun,
I walk away; she blinks her eyes,
With head upon front paws she sighs.

Cat soul; soft beat within her ears,
A cool cat now in feline spheres,
And, steppin’ out upon the floor,
With shiny coat all cats adore.

She dreams with catness in her mind,
A slipp’ry mouse that she might find,
“I sleep and dream; that’s all you see”,
“I’m just conserving energy!”

I See Your Hands

I See Your Hands

I see your hands,
Lady fingers,
Savored, slight and slender,
Feminine,
On the left a small imperfect stone,
As perfect as a poor boy could buy,
You said, “Yes”,
Two poor kids became rich beyond measure,
In love with the treasure of love itself,
Enmeshed with life’s involvement-
Ecstasy and intimacy,
Growth and pain,
Bitterness tendered with understanding,
Smiles and laughter,
And, God undergirding life’s plan,
And, God undergirding death’s plan, too,
I will love you,
Forever,
And, forever more!
