Pursuit of Happiness – Sonnet XXI

Pursuit of Happiness – Sonnet XXI

Are we a nation torn anew?
Such hateful taunts we all abhor,
A colored map of red and blue,
Defining now our civil war?
With later ads of violence,
Could we not sense or obviate,
True want of work or recompense,
How can we steer our ship of state?
It’s time to look at those we love,
Across this deep divided sea,
Yes, look for guidance up above!
A family we wish to be,
To work, and strive through all duress,
In our pursuit of happiness.
