Cannonballs (A Special Poolside Splash)
“Cannonballs”: a special splash when you are at a pool,
Anyone can make them for you never look the fool,
Just jump up off the diving board and curl into a ball,
Then grab your knees up in the air as to the pool you
fall.
Now, as you hit the water your behind will feel the
crash,
Yet, up above admir’ng ones will view the largest splash,
Your grandson standing by the edge; he smiles at you, and
then,
He holds imaginary sign; yells, “Grandpa that’s a 10!”
Age sixty-five the inward “boy” is welling deep inside,
Your grandson does his “cannonball” and you are filled
with pride,
A bigger splash inside your mind you ponder and you map,
Now, jumping even higher; in your hip you sense a “snap”!
A day has passed, it’s morning now; you’re walking rather
slow,
You’re on your own “disabled list”, and let the family
know,
Still smiling at the memory poolside fun and all,
You taught your grandson how to do a perfect “cannonball”!
