The State of Sin
The state of sin; not sins per se,
The root of all that’s wrong today,
Not you, not you, not you, not you,
In me, in me, in me all through.
When sin pervades it takes the whole,
Invades the inward, wayward soul,
I wore the ‘bad boy’ image proud,
I hung with others in that crowd.
Now, ‘sin’ is hardly e’en a word,
I threw it out as one absurd,
And, lived with it ‘til all could see,
It was not ‘sin’; it’s only me.
But, sin it finally took control,
No real pleasure to extol,
I searched the world for some way out,
And, all I saw was fraught with doubt.
Oh, there is something very real,
A Man of Sorrows did reveal,
He died upon a cross for me,
Believed in Him; found liberty!
A story old; quite new today,
The state of sin; and sins per se,
On cross he died, and now he lives,
The Son of God, through faith, forgives!
