Warm Winter Day

Warm Winter Day

The wind it whistles wafting through the back porch screen today,
A lonely leaf is lifted high all dancing in its play,
The warm air gathers comforting; a sign of true portent,
Though winter’s here our spring is near with hope of its intent.

A single crow is cawing in the barren wood so near,
The buds upon Dogwood tree still closed with fervent fear,
That Jack his frozen fingered frost would nip a flower too soon,
And, we would lose the glory of the Dogwood’s glorious boon.

The roses nothing more than sticks to untrained naked eye,
They sleep below all blanketed in mounds of mulch and sigh,
And, dreaming reds, and pinks and orange and even bits of blue,
In celebration of new life that comes for me and you!

You and Me

You and Me

Everything about you,
Impels me to love you,
I’m drawn in,
Two kids still in love,
It’s the intimate,
The ultimate,
There is the forever involved,
It’s not need,
But, there is great wanting,
I enjoy buying flowers for you,
Just to see that excitement on your face,
The joy it brings to your eyes,
Each time,
Every time,
A love like this is a rare as a clear red ruby,
Scarcer still,
And, certainly more beautiful,
I cherish,
I relish each day,
Someday death will capture you or me,
But, as God is my witness,
This love of ours,
Will never die.

Life’s Pageantry

Life’s Pageantry

What gives to life its pleasantry?
Its wonder and its pageantry,
The sound a child his footfall makes,
A flight of geese cross frozen lakes.

Ten thousand field flow’rs in the wind,
A groom his boutonniere just pinned,
Or springtime garden’s plotted loam,
Now trip to grandpa; grandma’s home.

True blessings in this life we see,
Though rich or poor the best are free,
Each birthday cake with candles blown,
Brings joys of life with all we’ve known.

Winter Light

Winter Light
Winter light so bright and bold,
Air is calm with bitter cold,
Each diamond dew drop in the trees,
Glows sparkling in a winter freeze.

Oh, Father winter; Mother earth,
Each day a wondrous world at birth,
This morn; your trees like starlight shine,
Such beauty in this grand design!

Remember the Days of Snow in Winter

Remember the Days of Snow in Winter

We remember the days of snow in winter,
Snow upon, upon snow,
Drifts high unto the sides of houses,
Rubber boots with buckles or zippers,
Mittens and gloves,
Little kids with elastic bands and snaps-
So gloves would not be lost in cloak rooms,
Teachers taking time,
At the end of day,
To button up,
Zip up,
Wrap scarves around our necks,
And tuck pants into boot tops,
Sleds and snow saucers,
Toboggans for the rich kids,
Traveling down “Devil’s Hill”,
Where are the snows of yesteryear?
Where are the chains on father’s tires?
Gone with the change of “global warming”,
A delight from simple warmth in winter,
A welcome change from southerner’s boastings,
Not so with draught in field,
Worries of the lake too low,
A shower, a wash, a drink,
No politics,
No science,
No religion,
No ambition,
Observation in the obvious,
Enjoying each day,
Relishing that ice is dissipating on the roadways,
One less lost in white outs,
One less slip for the aged,
One less lost from frigid cold,
Positives and negatives,
In life,
I will always uplift,
Where I can,
The positives .

Friends and Lovers

Friends and Lovers

A friend is one that cares for you,
When you are bad or worse,
They do not pamper; mince their words,
At times they’ll even curse.

When things are good you sail along,
As hand-in-hand you go,
Through thick and thin you forge a life,
As bonds together grow.

A lover is that special one,
So few know skin-to-skin,
All intimate those inward thoughts,
And, sees you from within.

If one you hold are both of these,
A lover and a friend,
Embrace together every day,
What only Heav’n could send!

Symbiotic Symmetry

Symbiotic Symmetry

We have two cats; a wondrous thing,
Such joy into our life they bring,
They don’t do much, but eat and sleep,
Around the household world they creep.

The two they stare at me with smiles,
I’ve cleaned their box of piles and piles,
How can in one day they produce,
More pounds per inch of cat refuse!

A symbiotic symmetry,
We work and toil and they are free!
As surrogates they are like kids,
We share the love; we cover bids.

When thinking pets; of push to shove,
Within your house who do you love?
Your spouse, of course, but whiskers, too.
One “kiss” upon the cheek will do!
