Marriage

Marriage

Marriage

Marriage is a blessing,
I have been married longer,
Than I have been single,
My wife is traveling to see our children,
I am single for a couple of days,
You would think that this freedom,
But, all I can think about is her,
I have had the flu,
Grandchildren do not need one more germ from grandpa,
It is Christmas time and grandma is taking presents,
Grandma needs to see the “babies”,
She is being “Santa”, this weekend,
But, Grandpa, is missing Grandma,
I know that if I am feeling this,
Others of felt it, too,
So I will describe it,
Its lips and eyes,
The silhouette,
The babe in slacks,
Those cute boots,
You know,
The hug,
The breath,
Just the presence,
The girl of my dreams,
I thought,
For a nanosecond,
That this would be fun,
To have time on my own,
But, it’s not,
Marriage,
When it’s a good one,
And, this is a great one,
Is a blessing,
I miss my girl!

Worthy

Worthy

Cursive,
Writing,
Gone,
Really?
Outdated,
Smooth,
Skin,
Gone,
Really?
Timeworn,
Your,
Worth,
Gone,
Really?
Never.

Grandchildren Part II

Grandchildren_Part II

Grandchildren are the best,
Every grandparent will say so,
On so many levels,
The simple stuff is,
You love ‘em,
When you are tired,
You give ‘em back,
The best part is,
If you are involved,
You hear your daughter,
You hear your son,
Say,
Something,
About,
Your,
Grandchild (boy or girl),
You immediately, relate,
Your eyes start to tear,
Because you remember,
Putting on socks,
Putting on the shoes,
“Come on”, “Come on”,
“Get into the car!”
“We have to get going!”
As a Grandparent,
You know you have loved each child,
That, is your children,
And, now you can sit back,
You can bask.

Dull Days

Dull Days

Overcast,
Rain in the distance,
You learn to recognize,
Straight vertical lines on the horizon,
Dull days,
Fields are barren,
Winter fall,
Twelve days of fifteen this month,
Gloomy,
Dull days,
A time of rest,
Pattered pavement,
Rain, constant,
Rain not drenching, just,
Drips, and drops, and drizzle,
Dull days,
Yet, Still!
Filled with wonder,
When I walk,
Past a window,
I see,
My garden,
Applauding!

Family

Family

We married in college one year for the end,
We worked two; three jobs, to pay bills and defend-
Our chance at a move to a graduate school,
Plan everything right, and all would be cool.

We’re pregnant; surprised in our new freshman year,
We felt this was “death” in our common career,
My wife would lay out one more year when she had,
The joy of a son; our new basis of “GLAD!”

It doesn’t take long with the glints of the eye,
These babies are cool; let’s give it a try,
So, one adds to two, and two adds to three,
And, now we have built a family tree.

Now, from all your children with struggles and hugs,
And, prayers by their bedside for no bites from bugs,
They all find true love; married now and they’ve flown,
To start having babies, all on their own!
