I See Your Hands

I See Your Hands

I see your hands,
Lady fingers,
Savored, slight and slender,
Feminine,
On the left a small imperfect stone,
As perfect as a poor boy could buy,
You said, “Yes”,
Two poor kids became rich beyond measure,
In love with the treasure of love itself,
Enmeshed with life’s involvement-
Ecstasy and intimacy,
Growth and pain,
Bitterness tendered with understanding,
Smiles and laughter,
And, God undergirding life’s plan,
And, God undergirding death’s plan, too,
I will love you,
Forever,
And, forever more!

Cookies (or Baking Day)

Cookies (or Baking Day)

Every child just loves to eat,
A frosted sprinkled cookie treat,
“Today you all will help me make,”
“The cookie dough that we will bake!”

Class 101, “The Bakery”,
The bowls and pans, and cookery,
Ingredients are on our shelves,
We will become the cookie elves.

With flour, eggs and sugar, too,
We’ll stir and blend our cookie goo,
A touch more flour to make it right,
And, in one hour we’ll take a bite.

“They’re not quite cookies. No, not yet!”
“These dobs of dough on greased pan set,”
“Now in the oven they must be,”
“To brown just right in that degree.”

But, now they’re perfect and they’re done,
We’ll have our frosted, sprinkled fun,
And, when we eat we all will say,
“We love our Mom, and baking day!”

A Cold, Cold Spring

A Cold, Cold Spring

A cold, cold wintered weathered spring,
Each sweatshirt worn; (I wear them out),
Yet, barefoot now; my toes all zing,
I walk with zest, and have no doubt.

It’s Spring! It’s Spring!  Thank God it’s Spring!
The snows now melt; no time to pout,
For purples, orange and reds now sing,
It is our time to scream and shout!

The Wedding Dress

The Wedding Dress

The wedding dress,
Mother and daughter time,
Sublime and subliminal,
Ecstasy in lace and satin,
More smiles,
Laughter,
Tears,
Every moment captured in special time,
It is THE dress,
Every girl is a princess!
This is a princess time!
Your daughter,
Her first recognition of you,
Her first smile,
Her first laugh,
Her hand grabbing your finger,
Her first unbalanced step,
Now running away,
Laughing and shouting, “catch me, now!”
Growing and groaning up-
Together,
Drama and trauma,
Tears, and tethered hugs,
All bound in love,
And, now a boy,
The boy,
He has become her man,
Your little girl a woman,
A union begins,
Mother and daughter,
United in purpose,
Her first step,
Your first step,
Together,
Now and forevermore.

Spring Green

Spring Green

I heard jazz,
A Buzz,
A Noise,
A Beat,
A Bean,
A Gre-e-een Bean,
Avocado,
Lime,
Emerald,
Celery,
Apple,
Asparagus, and Teal, and Chartreuse,
(Does yellow-green count…it does in my world),
Jungle,
Olive,
And, a hint of Hunter,
Oh, yah,
Pine,
And, Pistachio, too,
Spring green,
Forest green,
I heard jazz,
Tasted it, too,
Mellow,
Minty!
